But, Kate: Where CAN We Travel?

I’ve been pretty staunchly on Team NoTravel since March, but the longer COVID-19 drags on, and the more Keystone Kops-y the U.S.’s response looks, I’ve got to admit that destinations are suffering without the revenue U.S. tourism brings in, so it may be time to rethink that stance.

We all have different comfort levels and risk profiles, and, as I’ve detailed before on social media, I have a weird medical history that makes me pretty anxious about health issues under the best of circumstances. But I recognize that doesn’t necessarily extend to you having the same level of concern. If you understand the risks involved, and feel comfortable traveling, then I want you to have solid, up-to-date information about how to do that.

So here’s a rundown of the destinations currently allowing U.S. residents and the rules and restrictions about going to each of those destinations. In general, European airports are permitting U.S. citizens to transit provided they stay airside; you will need to ensure your luggage is checked through to your final destination, or take only carry-on luggage. Your airline is best-positioned to advise you on the likelihood of being stopped at your connecting European airport; if your final destination is not one currently taking U.S. residents (i.e., France), you will not be permitted to board your connecting flight.

Note: This information is provided for convenience only; please always check with the embassy of the country in question for the most current details and restrictions. Country guidelines, restrictions, and policies may change without notice.
