That’s right, folks…the EU has granted permission for U.S.-based travelers to re-enter!

But…(of course there are caveats) every member state still gets to set its own rules, so figuring out the what and how can be a little confusing.

We’ve broken it down for you here, country-by-country (note that we’re only following countries we receive substantial requests for; for all others, please check reopen.europa.eu or Sherpa):

AUSTRIA

Travelers from the U.S. currently not permitted entry without quarantine (applies to both vaccinated and unvaccinated travelers).

BELGIUM

U.S.-based vaccinated travelers may enter with a 1-2 day quarantine period upon entry (testing upon entry).

CROATIA

  • U.S. travelers permitted entry under the following circumstances:

    • Certificate of completed vaccination (last dose >14 days prior to entry and not more than 270 days old) OR

    • Document showing a positive result from a PCR test or rapid antigen test for persons who have recovered from COVID-19 between 11 and 180 days from the date of the positive test result OR

    • Unvaccinated persons may get a negative PCR or rapid antigen test within 48 hours of arrival in Croatia.

  • All travelers must complete an Enter Croatia form prior to arrival.

  • Proof of paid accommodation for the duration of your visit must be provided.

  • Children under the age of 12 who are traveling with parents who meet the above requirements are exempt from needing vaccination/testing/recovery requirements.

FRANCE

  • U.S. travelers permitted entry under the following circumstances:

  • Certificate of completed vaccination (last dose >14 days prior to entry for Pfizer/Moderna or >28 days prior to entry for J&J); unvaccinated travelers are not permitted entry.

GERMANY

  • U.S. travelers permitted entry under the following circumstances:

    • Certificate of completed vaccination (last dose >14 days prior to entry)

GREECE

  • U.S. travelers permitted entry under the following circumstances:

    • Certificate of completed vaccination (last dose >14 days prior to entry) OR

    • Unvaccinated persons may show a negative PCR test result taken no more than 72 hours prior to entry in Greece OR

    • Certificate of recovery from COVID-19 issued by public authority or certified laboratory OR

    • Proof of a positive COVID-19 test in the past 2-9 months.

  • All travelers are required to complete a Passenger Locator Form no later than 23:59 of the day before arriving in Greece and may be required to undergo random COVID-19 testing at the airport upon arrival.

ICELAND

  • U.S. travelers permitted entry under the following circumstances:

    • Certificate of completed vaccination AND

    • Negative PCR or antigen test taken within 72 hours prior to departure

    • As of August 30, 2021: travelers recently recovered from COVID-19 are exempt from presenting negative COVID-19 test results at the border, but will need to present positive PCR test results take more than 14 days prior to arrival, but not more than 180 days prior to arrival.

  • All travelers are required to complete a pre-registration form before departure.

IRELAND

  • U.S. travelers permitted entry under the following circumstances:

    • Valid proof of vaccination OR

    • Valid proof of recovery from COVID-19, between 11 and 180 days prior to arrival OR

    • A negative PCR test result taken within 72 hours of arrival in Ireland (these travelers will be required to quarantine for 14 days upon arrival)

    • All travelers must fill out a Passenger Locator Form before departure.

ITALY

  • U.S. travelers permitted entry under the following circumstances:

    • Valid proof of vaccination AND

    • A negative test result (either PCR or antigen) taken no more than 72 hours before arrival in Italy.

  • One traveler per family or group must complete an online European Digital Passenger Locator Form and include details of all fellow travelers.

portugal

  • U.S. travelers permitted entry under the following circumstances:

    • Certificate of completed vaccination AND

    • Negative PCR test taken within 72 hours prior to departure

      • Please note there are additional requirements for travel to Madeira or the Azores.

  • All travelers are required to complete a passenger locator card after checking into their flight and prior to arriving in Portugal.

SLOVENIA

  • U.S. travelers permitted entry under the following circumstances:

    • Certificate of completed vaccination OR

    • Negative PCR test taken within 48 hours of arrival OR

    • A positive PCR test result older than 10 days but not older than 6 months

  • All travelers must complete a travel application form.

SPAIN

  • U.S. travelers permitted entry under the following circumstances:

    • Certificate of completed vaccination

      • Children under the age of 12 are exempt

  • All travelers must complete a mandatory travel declaration form.

SWITZERLAND

  • U.S. travelers will be permitted entry as of June 28th (this rule is scheduled to be voted on on June 23rd) under the following circumstances:

    • Certificate of completed vaccination

    • Proof of recovery from COVID-19

      • Children under the age of 18 traveling with vaccinated parents are exempt from requirements
